Concord

  • Excellent winter production
  • Late season maturity
  • High quality suited to hay/silage
  • Consistently high performing short term ryegrass

Continues to be a consistent and proven italian ryegrass for fast establishment and winter activity. CONCORD Italian Ryegrass is a high producing short-term ryegrass with aggressive, rapid establishment, excellent autumn, spring and summer production and outstanding winter activity. It is slightly finer and more densely tillered than tetraploid italians
and provides more rapid re-growth after grazing. CONCORD, like other italian ryegrasses is highly palatable. Its late flowering characteristics and high sugar content ensure that quality feed is maintained well into the summer.

What the producers say...

Bruce Michael, Bruny Island TAS
In 2003, he sowed 15 ha of Concord, which established aggressively and was able to out-compete the bent grass, as well as providing valuable winter grazing and silage in spring. The Concord was so successful Bruce planted a further 85ha last year. “I think the ryegrass has been terrific. I was very sceptical about it because of past experiences in SA. But I have been really impressed with how the Concord grows and competes, especially in winter. I was running
up to 20DSE and it was still maintaining growth. We can graze it for 12 months of the year - our environment allows it.”
“We have done the work with Concord on 90ha, why not do it over 1000ha?”
Andrew Blissett, dairy producer, Kenilworth QLD
“People have always talked dry matter but to farmers it is dollars and cents that are important - especially since deregulation. So far the Concord has provided more feed than Tetila at each grazing. The Tetila will finish in November and we will still have two to three more grazings from the Concord. The trial here has been a real eyeopener. It’s shown
me that it definitely pays to plant Concord and I’ll try some Winter Star.”
Mark and David Walker, dairy producers, Kangaroo Valley NSW
“Concord ryegrass fills the winter feed gap on the kikuyu based pastures. Concord is a proven performer, reliable and highly palatable.”

ECONOMIC BENIFITS

Based on a stocking rate of 3 cows per hectare, Concord produced an extra 595 litres per cow compared to Tetila. This equated to a benefit of $446 per hectare.
