- Scientifically shown to improve animal performance
(new data)
- Enhanced palatability and acceptance
- More rapid and reliable establishment than
diploid types
- Superior disease resistance
- Enhanced persistence
The new benchmark in Australia for short term ryegrass.
FEAST II™ ryegrass is a new-generation, high-yielding,
tetraploid, italian ryegrass. The tetraploid nature of FEAST II
ryegrass can lead to improved animal intake through enhanced
palatability. FEAST II has excellent disease resistance.
Many farmers undersow FEAST II annually into existing pasture to
provide extra winter growth of high quality forage. FEAST II can
persist for 2-3 years in summer mild environments.

What the producers say...
Warren and Janet Bennett, Smithton TAS
The Bennetts direct-drilled Feast II into the existing 170ha of pasture at
20kg/ha. The results were good to say the least.
“It was an awesome strike,” Warren said. “It got above the other stuff very
quickly. We hammered it with a 14-day grazing rotation in spring but the
cows still had trouble keeping up with it, as it was also the best spring
we’d experienced.”
“The cows love eating it - the pasture under irrigation is grazed with a
rotation of 20 days or less,” Warren said. “On the dryland area it thrives
through dry summers and comes away well after the autumn break. “We haven’t looked at the figures but you only have to look in the vat to
see that milk production increases every time they’re on it compared to
the older pastures - the cows are also healthier and more energetic. “We’re very impressed with Feast II. We can maintain our stocking rate
throughout the year. We feel that direct-drilling Feast II into the pasture
every 2-3 years is an economical way to keep productivity and quality in
our pastures.”
Michael and Leanne Ryan Barongarook West VIC
The Ryans are tying to pasture feed their cows, rather than heavily grain
feed them, in order to reduce production costs.
“We traditionally sowed a lot of clover, but now we sow very little due to
our success with ryegrasses such as Feast II,” Michael said. “We trialled Feast II on our property in 2004, but to ensure the crop was
given ideal conditions in 2005 we sprayed the paddocks with glyphosate
in mid March and then dry over-sowed,” Leanne said. “The results were brilliant and we have been very pleased with Feast II.
We are always trying to upgrade and we’re interested in using new
species such as Feast II to cut and conserve more for silage and to feed
the cows over summer and winter.”
“For areas that need improvement, we are going to use more ryegrasses
and we find Feast II is the best italian ryegrass to use.
Col Thompson, Cowra NSW
“We’ve done a few things here which have contributed to the lift in
production,” Col said. “Just how much Feast II has contributed is hard to
say but obviously we’re very happy with the production that we’ve been
getting from it. It’s certainly a big part of our feeding program.”
Satisfied with the bulk of quality feed generated by Feast II, Col said he
would be retaining the ryegrass in its pivotal role on the property. “We’re planning to stick with Feast II for the time being - we have
switched totally to Feast II because it’s been giving us the best feed,” he
said.
