Multi Foli-8 Lucerne

  • good multifoliate expression
  • makes leafy high quality hay
  • outstanding pest & disease resistance
  • suited to long growing seasons
  • highly winter active (8) multifoliate lucerne for superior hay or grazing.

MULTI FOLI-8 is a high producing highly winter active (8) lucerne featuring high forage yield during all growing seasons, and good persistence. Its combination of high multiple pest resistance, multifoliolate expression and yield makes it an excellent variety for the growing conditions where highly winter active varieties are used with good summer moisture.
MULTI FOLI-8 is best recommended for producers targeting the high value lucerne hay market, where premiums can be received for its high leaf content and colour in the bale. It should be sown in long growing season areas, preferably with good irrigation and high fertility to ensure maximum expression of the multifoliate trait.
Multifoliate Expression
This variety has high expression of the multifoliolate (MF) trait. MF expression is a component in improved forage quality. MF expression has been successfully used to help market improved forage quality. The striking visual image of the MF trait and the straightforward tie-in between improved leafiness and improved forage quality has led to the successful use of the MF trait to help market improved forage quality. MF expression is measured as both %MF (% of plants showing some MF expression) and MF index (average plant score when plants are scored 1-5; 1=trifoliate and 5=very high MF expression).

High multi leafing characteristics of Multi foli 8.

Agronomic performance
MULTI FOLI-8 has performed well in Australian screening trials under irrigation at Ballarat in Victoria, where its yield was similar to other commercial highly winter active trifoliate varieties.

What the producers say...

Mick Marshall, Cowarr VIC
Mick Marshall is a forage contractor for the Macalister Irrigation District. He supplies numerous dairy farms, so quality and yield are extremely important. “Multi foli-8 was sown on 22 September 2005 and we have had 4 cuts off it already. My customer’s love the quality and it has yielded better than L34 every cut. The other noticeable difference is that the leaf has a dark green colour and it doesn’t drop off the stem and it produces heavier bales. I’ll be using this again.”
