Bred for high yielding hay production
A great new Australian grown winter active lucerne for serious
croppers who want maximum feed and nitrogen fixation.
CROPPER NINE is a high producing, highly winter active (9)
variety, featuring high forage yield during all growing seasons
and excellent persistence. It has demonstrated better forage
production than most popular varieties used in Australia, North
and South America such as CUF 101, Siriver, Sequel, Aquarius,
Genesis, and Trifecta.
Farmers growing lucerne in rotation with cropping in Australia
look to a lucerne variety that will establish quickly, provide good
winter and warm season production and fix maximum nitrogen
over the short 3 - 4 year lucerne phase. CROPPER NINE has been
selected for use into this segment due to its outstanding
performance for all these attributes.
CROPPER NINE has been grown in Australia and exported to
other countries. Its excellent forage production and good seed
yielding ability offers Australian mixed farmers the opportunity to
plant a lucerne with outstanding performance characteristics at a
reasonable price.

What the producers say...
John Daly, Willow Tree NSW
John first introduced Cropper Nine, into his feed strategy in 2003 for
grazing and fodder conservation and he has been particularly pleased
with its ability to provide quality feed for extra production during dry
periods. “Cropper Nine has been sown under a wheat crop and used in rotation
for disease break and nitrogen fixation and has been very successful,”
John said.
John found that other lucerne varieties required more intensive
management than Cropper Nine.
“I’ve definitely been more pleased with Cropper Nine and have found it
to be persistent,” he said. “A quality feed is very important, especially with young Heifers during
calving. I need the best feed possible to ensure they are given a good
head-start and Cropper Nine delivers,” he said.
Ian Sharrock, Bribbaree, NSW
Ian said he wanted to use Cropper Nine as a summer feed to replace
dried feeds and found it has worked very well.
“After good rains, we were able to put all of our Merino ewe lambs on
lucerne and this resulted in better growth and production rates,” Ian said. “It also cut out supplementary feeding and therefore saved on production
costs."
Ian said he has found Cropper Nine to perform much better than other
varieties that he has used in the past. “By over-sowing with Cropper Nine we are able to cut 800 round bales
of hay off 52 ha,” he said.
Not only does Ian use lucerne for hay production, he has also used it for
grazing during summer and has been very pleased with how well it has
fed his sheep and cattle. “I will continue to under-sow up to 200 ha per year with Cropper Nine
under triticale and will also sow Cropper Nine under Bowie soft wheat,”
Ian said.
